Ismail ibn Ali

I am a high school chemistry and technology teacher at ConneXions School for the Arts. My mother and father are from Trinidad and Tobago and I grew up in Miami, FL. I attended the University of Florida (GO GATORS!) and earned a B.S. in Biochemistry with a minor in UFTeach. I am currently at Johns Hopkins University pursuing a M.S. in Education with a concentration in Urban Education. I love to play basketball, study Islamic sciences and of course, teach.

I am an avid sports fan. Here are where my allegiances lie:

What does “Ustadh” mean?

“Ustadh” (pronounced Oo-staa-d) is the Arabic word for teacher (written استاذ). I thought it would be cool to have students address me by something other than Mr. ibn Ali. As a lover of languages, and a student of Arabic, I decided استاذ was the way to go.
